Congressman Kean Commemorates Social Security’s 90th Anniversary, Highlights Strength and Importance of Program
(August 20, 2025) WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) and Congressman Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) introduced a resolution last week commemorating the 90th anniversary of Social Security and reaffirming the importance of this landmark federal program in providing economic security for elderly Americans. This resolution celebrates the establishment of the Social Security Act nine decades ago and reaffirms Social Security as a vital pillar of America’s social safety net for all who depend on it today and for future generations.
“Social Security has stood as a trusted institution for millions of Americans for the past 90 years,” said Congressman Kean. “This vital program ensures that seniors, families coping with loss, and individuals with disabilities have access to the support they need to live with dignity and security. As we honor its enduring legacy, we reaffirm our commitment to preserve and strengthen Social Security for all who depend on it today, as well as the hardworking Americans who have contributed to it throughout their lives.”
“For generations across Northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond, Social Security has been more than a program, it has been a lifeline,” said Congressman Bresnahan. “Social Security continues to support tens of millions of Americans annually, reflecting decades of hard-earned contributions. As we mark 90 years since the Social Security Act was signed into law, we honor the promise to ensure this and other vital programs remain intact, not just for today’s seniors, but for our children and grandchildren who will one day rely on them.”
Congressman Kean joined Representatives Rob Bresnahan (PA-08), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Mike Lawler (NY-17), Zachary Nunn (IA-03), Jennifer Kiggans (VA-02), and Claudia Tenney (NY-24) in introducing the resolution.
