(July 28, 2023) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-NJ) sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging swift consideration and authorization of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s request for an Emergency Declaration for Warren County and the State of New Jersey, in the wake of the recent devastating storm and flooding damage.
Over the weekend of July 15th, 2023, significant rainfall and ensuing flooding and mudslides damaged numerous roads, and thoroughfares were impassable and temporarily closed. Additionally, 2,500 New Jerseyans were immediately without power, and while Jersey Central Power & Light Co mobilized resources from across the state to address this issue, many residents are still without power.
An Emergency Declaration under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (PL 100-707) would unlock crucial FEMA resources and assets that will aid the State, local, first responder, and community efforts to protect human life, property, and critical infrastructure.
