Kean Secures $245K for New Providence Police Communications Upgrades

August 11, 2026

(August 11, 2026) NEWPROVIDENCE, NJ – Yesterday, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) met with New Providence officials to visit the New ProvidencePolice Department. Congressman Kean secured $245,000 for the New ProvidencePolice Department through Community Project Funding. This funding will be used to replace 47 portable radios, which will use upgraded technology to connect radios to a Wi-Fi network.

“The $245,000 that I secured for New Providence will improve communications throughout the police department,” said Congressman Kean. “Our valued first responders need access to updated technology to have the most effective connection with other emergency services departments. I am pleased to secure these critical resources for the New Providence Police Department to keep our communities safe.”

“Thank you, Congressman Kean, for securing funding for these sorely-needed new police radios,” said Mayor Al Morgan. “The radio system needs to be upgraded, especially with the police department moving into a new facility. This funding will ultimately help the police department, first responders, and residents.”

“It is incredible to see a little town like New Providence receive this federal assistance,” said Police Chief Donald Sretenovic. “Congressman Kean’s dedication to law enforcement and first responders is obvious.”

At the New Providence Police Department, Congressman Kean presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to New Providence Police Chief Donald Sretenovic, who was sworn in on August 1, 2026.

In July, Congressman Kean announced that 18 Community Project Funding requests made by his office totaling $17,765,906, are included in key House funding bills for the upcoming fiscal year. Learn more HERE.
