Kean Secures $1 Million for Watchung Pedestrian Safety Improvements
(August 20, 2026) WATCHUNG, NJ – Last weekend, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) visited Valley Road in Watchung with Mayor Ronald Jubin. Congressman Kean secured $1,000,000 in a House funding bill for sidewalk improvements on Valley Road through the Community Project Funding process.
“Pedestrians should be able to safely walk on the sidewalks in every community,” said Congressman Kean. “Just 7 years ago, a 12-year-old was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured while walking along this exact stretch of road. The funding that I secured will support renovations to the sidewalk to make it safe and accessible for everyone.”
“I’m grateful to Congressman Kean for his support in submitting the funding request for the Valley Road sidewalk improvements,” said Mayor Ronald Jubin. “These upgrades will give Watchung families, parents with strollers, and residents with disabilities greater access to safe, healthy activity in our community.”
“As a resident who lives on Valley Road, I’m looking forward to the sidewalk improvements,” said Valley Road resident Catherine Furlan. “It will improve walkability in the neighborhood so families can safely walk to and from school or just exercise.”
Since taking office, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. has secured more than $3.4 million for accessible walkways across New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District through the Community Project Funding process.
In July, Congressman Kean announced that 18 Community Project Funding requests made by his office totaling $17,765,906, are included in key House funding bills for the upcoming fiscal year. Learn more HERE.
