Kean Receives Shot@Life Congressional Champion Award

February 25, 2025

(February 25, 2025) WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) received the Shot@Life Congressional Champion Award for his leadership in advancing global child health and immunization efforts in Congress.

“I am humbled to receive this award and thank Shot@Life for this recognition,” said Congressman Kean. “U.S. investments in initiatives like Gavi not only save lives but also encourage countries to strengthen their own financial commitments, creating a shared responsibility for global health. Together, let us continue our efforts in advancing global immunization and ensuring that every child, no matter where they are born, has access to life-saving vaccines and a healthier future.”

“Representative Kean has been a leader in championing global immunization, particularly the work of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, on Capitol Hill” said Peter Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign. “Gavi hasn’t just saved millions of children’s lives from vaccine-preventable diseases—it’s a proven model of sustainability and helps countries take ownership of their immunization programs. Thanks to the dedication of champions like Representative Kean, the strong partnership between Gavi and the U.S. government continues to deliver for children’s health and national economies, and we are honored to present him with this year’s Shot@Life Congressional Champion Award.”

Last Congress, Congressman Kean introduced a bipartisan resolution, affirming continued U.S. support for the purchase of life-saving vaccines for lower-income countries through Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, as a cost-effective means to end preventable child and maternal deaths around the world.
